This course familiarized trial judges with principles and practices relating to applications of judicial review.

Objectives

The objective of this seminar was to develop a framework for judges to deal with applications for judicial review in order to allow them to deal with judicial reviews both systematically and effectively.

Summary

Led by senior judges and academics with expertise in this area, and delivered using a combination of lectures, panel discussions, demonstrations and small-group exercises, this course covered the legal framework for judicial review, the standard of review, procedural fairness, independence and impartiality, issues concerning First Nations and Indigenous Peoples, and remedies in the context of judicial review.
