Civil Law Committee Session – Summary Judgment

Justice Ross and Master Mason presented a practical and informative session on the law of summary judgment following the Weir-Jones decision. The focus was on the effective use of summary trials in our courts.

Justice Ross and Master Mason presented a practical and informative session on the law of summary judgment following the Weir-Jones decision. The focus was on the effective use of summary trials in our courts. 

Justices were also informed about a pilot project under discussion with the Calgary Masters to conduct case conferences to prepare matters for summary trial in Calgary, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat proposed to commence in the fall.

Participants were provided with a 21-page document summarizing Weir-Jones, as well as Alberta Court of Appeal and Court of Queen’s Bench decisions considering the case.
