For the sake of transparency, since 2018, the Council annually publishes a list of courses and seminars available during the previous fiscal year. The following is a list of courses, seminars and other learning activities attended by federally appointed judges to continue their learning and enhance their knowledge.

    Judgment Writing

    This seminar is designed to assist judges in improving their judgment-writing skills. The program includes lectures, discussions, and workshops that stress the nature of good prose, point-first writing and the special requirements and special challenges of judicial writing. Since the art of writing is a skill that, like all skills, can be improved only through practice, much of the instruction will center on written exercises and judgments.

    Judgment Writing 2018

    This course examined the art and craft of judgment writing, permitting participants to consider broadly the nature of appellate judgment writing, style and structure for good writing, as well as the importance of the editing process.

    Education Seminar

    This two-day seminar on children in the context of family law focused on taking into consideration the psychological and practical needs of children from the moment parenting plans are established, during post-separation or divorce and when granting financial support orders to ensure the best outcomes for children and foster resilience.
