The Canadian Judicial Council notes with sadness the passing of the Honourable Pierre A. Michaud
Members of the Canadian Judicial Council were saddened to hear of the passing of their former colleague, former Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal of Quebec, the Honourable Pierre Michaud.
Chief Justice Michaud became of a member of the Council upon his appointment as Associate Chief Justice in 1992, and served with distinction until his retirement in 2002. During his ten years on the Council, Chief Justice Michaud was active on many committees including the Executive, Judicial Conduct, Public Information, Judicial Independence, and Administration of Justice committees. Moreover, he chaired for some time the Judicial Education Committee and the Appeals Court Forum. In commenting on his passing, Council Chairperson and Chief Justice of Canada, the Right Honourable Richard Wagner, noted “I am honoured to have known Chief Justice Michaud as a friend and a mentor. He exemplified qualities of excellence, leadership and ethics. He will be missed”.
