Canadian Judicial Council provides an update in the matter involving the Honourable Michel Girouard

Ottawa, 17 March 2015 – The Inquiry Committee constituted to review the conduct of the Honourable Michel Girouard has announced the next steps in its ongoing proceedings. 

Preliminary matters will be heard on 23 and 24 March, 2015 at the Federal Court building in Quebec City, 300 Jean-Lesage Boulevard, Room 5.02B, beginning at 9:30 am. Space is limited. 

In addition, two weeks have been set aside for the substantive hearings from May 4 through to May 15, 2015. These public hearings will be held in the offices of the Commission des lésions professionnelles, 900 place d'Youville, 6th Floor, Diane-Paré-Bourgault Room, Quebec City. 

The Inquiry Committee is comprised of the Honourable Richard Chartier, Chief Justice of Manitoba (Chairperson), the Honourable Paul Crampton, Chief Justice of the Federal Court and Me Ronald LeBlanc Q.C. The task of presenting the matter to the Inquiry Committee in accordance with the public interest rests with Me Marie Cossette. 

The notice of allegations (French only) which forms the basis of the issues to be presented can be found on the Council website. It is important to note that these are allegations only and are contested by the judge. 

A number of proceedings related to this matter have been heard in Federal Court. Those interested in accessing all of the Federal Court documents should refer themselves to that Court's registar. The Council will make every effort to link on its website in the coming weeks any key decision that may have an impact on the proceedings of the Inquiry Committee.
