Programs for New Judges - Orientation Program at the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia 2020-2021

Immediately following their appointment, new judges spend a full day with two senior members of court who are responsible for their orientation and subsequent mentorship.

New judges receive information on the statutory and the internal structures for the organization and administration of the court; the resources available to the new judge to assist in carrying out their new responsibilities; information on salary and benefits; practical advice on how to prepare for cases and to be in a position to render decisions in a timely manner; advice as to relations with former colleagues in the bar; how to deal with the public, media, friends, and staff; among many other topics.
