Overview

The Supreme Court of British Columbia provides several informal Lunch and Learn programs, open to all judges of the court.

Objectives

The objective is to provide judges with a deeper understanding of current issues through relevant topics to improve their substantive skills and further their knowledge.

Summary

The following topics were explored during the year: the role of parenting coordinators in a non-adversarial dispute resolution process that is court ordered for parents who have an ongoing pattern of high conflict or litigation; the potential benefits of “unbundling” legal services and a cost analysis and overview of related initiatives in BC.; workplace harassment for all employees of the Court (including terminology, types of bullying and harassment, how to submit a claim as well as the procedure it entails and workplace safety regulations and the Labour Act); and the role of the Registrar and the family law cases that may be referred to them.
