This program focused on case law updates, managing cases with self-represented litigants, and productivity tools for judges.

Objectives

The objectives of this seminar were to review important case law and practice updates, to enhance participants’ skills in managing cases with self-represented litigants and to provide tools for optimal productivity.

Summary

With a multi-disciplinary faculty led by senior judges, sessions provided case law updates and practical advice on topics including: sexual assault trials post-Barton; summary judgment; judicial review; Bill C-75 update; inter-jurisdictional support proceedings and the Divorce Act amendments; judicial decision-making in high profile cases; governing ethical principles and effective communication with self-represented litigants; judicial decision-making, critical reasoning and unconscious bias; and judicial productivity using technology.
