For the sake of transparency, since 2018, the Council annually publishes a list of courses and seminars available during the previous fiscal year. The following is a list of courses, seminars and other learning activities attended by federally appointed judges to continue their learning and enhance their knowledge.

    Civil Law Seminar 2022

    This intensive program was intended for judges who hear civil matters and explored tort law, as well as public and private law remedies as pandemic events unfolded. Participants explored ways the legal system and the judicial system adjusted to the pandemic to provide remedies for novel wrongs and claims, and the extent to which traditional theories of liability were adapted to social change and technical developments.

    Appellate Courts Seminar 2021

    This three-day online seminar addressed themes specific to the work of appellate court judges, focusing on developments in medical law and climate change litigation, the use of technology and the law, the revised Ethical Principles for Judges, as well as race and culture in judgments.

  • June 4 2017 - June 9 2017

    Tax law for Lawyers Conference

    This CBA conference on tax law involved the specialized areas of practice of federally appointed judges at the Tax Court of Canada and Federal Court of Appeal. A particular focus was on income tax law, commodity tax and charity regulation. This conference also focused on legal developments in the areas of corporate and personal taxation and estate planning.
