For the sake of transparency, since 2018, the Council annually publishes a list of courses and seminars available during the previous fiscal year. The following is a list of courses, seminars and other learning activities attended by federally appointed judges to continue their learning and enhance their knowledge.

    New Brunswick Education Seminar: St. Andrews Lectures 2018 XI

    This program brought together judges of the Provincial Court of New Brunswick, the Court of Queen’s Bench of New Brunswick and the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick. It focused on criminal law with an emphasis on criminal law fundamentals, disclosure obligations and problems, use of police informants, trial management skills, the underrepresented accused, and Supreme Court of Canada updates.

    Roundtable on Criminal Trials Delays

    Canada’s criminal justice system is facing challenges that have serious impacts on the Canadian population and all sectors within the administration of justice resulting from the Supreme Court’s ruling in R v Jordan [2016]. This program, presented through a round table discussion, allowed cross-sector dialogue on the challenges occurring in criminal cases. The program brought together a vast pool of experts in many legal fields, including Canada’s federally appointed judges.
