Chief Justice Wagner notes with sadness the passing of the Honourable Robert D. Laing, former Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench for Saskatchewan and member of the Canadian Judicial Council

The Right Honourable Richard Wagner, Chairperson of the Canadian Judicial Council, noted with great sadness the recent passing of the late Robert Laing, former Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench for Saskatchewan and valued member of the Canadian Judicial Council. Former Chief Justice Laing was the Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench, and a member of the Canadian Judicial Council from January 1, 2006 until his retirement on December 31, 2011. 

While on Council, former Chief Justice Laing took a particular interest in judicial education and public information. “Chief Justice Laing displayed qualities of integrity and humility in his work and his interactions with others”, noted Chief Justice Wagner. “His personal contribution to the Council and to the country has had an enduring impact”.

On behalf of all Council members, Chief Justice Wagner extends his sympathy to the entire Laing family.
